What To Expect The First Time You Rent A Charter Bus

by Isabella Stanley

Renting a charter bus is an affordable, convenient way to travel with a group of people. You get to spend lots of time together without the hassle of booking plane tickets or having to wait at the airport. All in all, charter bus travel is simple and efficient, but it's still nice to know what to expect the first time around.

1. You can plan your route to a certain extent.

When you hire a charter bus, you can tell the driver where you want to go. If there's a town you want to stop in on the way to your key destination, they can arrange for that. If you need to take a detour to pick some other people up along the way, they can do that, too. In most cases, though, the bus company does need to know your itinerary ahead of time when you book. This way, they can plan for the correct trip length and make sure they have a driver scheduled for the duration.

2. There will be a bathroom on the bus.

The idea of traveling with a big group of people may seem a little cumbersome if you're worried about making bathroom stops with everyone. But most charter buses are actually fitted with bathrooms, which eliminates this hassle. The bathroom won't be big or glamorous, but it should be functional, which makes the whole ride more convenient.

3. You should have plenty of space for luggage.

Typically, charter buses have big carrying compartments underneath the vehicle. You and the other passengers can load your suitcases and anything you won't need during the bus ride into these compartments. So, in other words, there's really no reason to pack light, and you won't have to sit in and among your things on the bus.

4. It's expected that you tip the driver.

The charter bus company should give you a price before your trip. This price should include all costs and fees except for one — the cost of tipping your driver. It is expected that you tip your driver between 10% and 20% of the total cost of the trip. If the route was really easy, closer to 10% is enough. If you have kids on board, had to make a lot of stops, or spent lots of time in traffic, a larger tip is in order.

Now that you have a better idea of what to expect, set off on that charter bus trip and enjoy yourself!
